What if 6000 turned up?

During last Sunday’s message, Kees posed the provocative question the Lord asked him “What if 6000 turned up on Sunday?” What do you think? On the day of Pentecost the church grew from 120 (about our size) to 3120 in one day. They quickly organised to meet in homes and in the large temple courts – small groups and Sunday type gatherings to make sure the new disciples were saved and added and devoted to the apostle’s teaching, fellowship, breaking bread and prayer. A few chapters later multitudes were added again.

This year I have been reading Scotland Ablaze, with breathtaking stories of the 20 year revival in Scotland that kicked off in 1859. On the Island of Islay, there were 14,000 inhabitants, with around 1,000 Christians. As the revival hit, “there could now be seen the unexpected spectacle of 6,000 people meeting together on a weekday to hear the preaching of the Gospel. The movement began in Bowmore, the island’s principal community, and was anticipated by terrible excitement, such loud lamentations that the clergyman’s voice could not be heard. A teacher in Gaelic school society marvelled at the turn of events. ‘Our meetings are a scened indescribable, with weeping, crying and fainting. I might have given you the number of those affected, but suffice it to say that you would be astonished at the enumeration.'”

God has done it before in the Bible and in church history. He has promised us a sizeable percentage of our community of 48,000. I estimate there are around 1,000 churchgoers in town a smaller start than Islay in 1859 – with The Gateway gathering 120! What will a sizeable percentage of town look like? What will it look like when the wave of the Spirit prophecied by Keith Hazzell hits the area?

6,000 new Christians means 500 small groups! Are you ready for that? We have been called to “prepare the ground and sharpen the plough” ready for the flood of the Spirit to come.

So it’s time to get serious with the Lord – be on fire for Him!

  • Join us as we pray on Fri 22nd March 8pm at 99c High Street
  • Get your passion ablaze! God loves to use the weak and the ordinary who will obey Him. What’s holding you back and down from being used by God?
  • Would you train as a life group leader? There’s training coming up in June, by which time another new life group will have already started because of the growth this year

If revival was to break out and God was to add 60, 600 or 6,000 would you be ready to be used massively by Him?

God revives the church and gets her zeal for Him ablaze again, then awakening in the community happens as many get saved. We’re already seeing the Spirit at work in people’s lives bringing personal renewal and revival and we’re longing for that to hit the whole church in King’s Lynn and break out into the unchurched!
