I’ve just written an article for next Tuesday’s Lynn News in the lead up to Easter. This is a slightly extended version!
As I write this we have been adjusting to a new normal. It’s a traumatic time – local people have died of Coronavirus and we grieve for them. Others are sick and we pray for your recovery. Many are bored of being stuck at home and are frustrated. Others are worried for their jobs, or their income as orders have dried up. We will be back buying locally to support you very soon. Many of you are the real heroes of the hour – working in the NHS in the frontline and the backrooms, working in the food supply chain to keep the nation fed and watered. Thank you!
There’s a pattern in the Bible of isolation before breakthrough. Noah and his family were in lockdown on the ark as God reset the earth. Joseph was enslaved, imprisoned, and isolated from friends and family before becoming the Prime Minister of Egypt. The Israelites were in the wilderness for 40 years before entering the Promised land. Elijah was hidden by a brook before being used by God. John teh Baptist was in the wilderness for many years before becoming the greatest Old Covenant Prophet. Jesus was in obscurity for his first thirty years and then isolated in the desert fasting for 40 days before bursting into his earthly ministry. Could it be that there is a Biblical pattern of isolation, restrictions, even traumatic events just before the breakthrough?
As a church leader I have been having to learn fast how to live-stream to take our church services online. Judging by the numbers viewing, our congregation has doubled in this season. Could it be that this season of isolation will lead to a breakthrough for you and your family as you discover why you are on the earth, what your purpose in life is and discover that God loves you and wants to breakthrough into your life forevermore.
This Sunday (Lynn News article will be published 7th April), is the most important of the year for followers of Jesus. We celebrate the fact that Jesus came down to our broken world to die for us and rise again. That brings real hope for a broken world. Why not Google “Kings Lynn Church” and join one of the churches online. You can sneak in and see what it’s really like!
