Much to meditate on
Wow this chapter is so powerful! There is so much in it and so much to meditate on!
This chapter shows us so much of who God is:
Comforting, loving and compassionate (v1-2)
Powerful and sovereign (v10)
Shepherd – protecting, looking after and carrying His sheep (v11)
Immeasurable (v12)
All knowing & understanding (v13-14)
Incomparable (v18, 25)
Enthroned (v22)
Creator (v26, 28)
Everlasting (v28)
Sustainer (v26, 29, 31)
It also talks about us and the rest of creation:
People are weak / fade away (v6-7)
Nations are like a drop in a bucket/dust on scales – to small to measure (v15)
Like grasshoppers
Princes / Kings / Rulers – nothing compared to God – blown away like chaff (v23)
What a comparison! This passage tries to show us the greatness of God – but words just can't do it! Even comparing God to us (weak and like grasshoppers) can't express how great God is and all of who He is. It's mind blowing and such a good passage to meditate on and reflect on who God is!
We tried out v12 with the youth when we started looking at a series on God's character – no one could hold more than 2 tbs in the whole of our hands (little bit less than all the waters on the earth!!) and no one's hand width could even stretch the length of a 30cm ruler (let alone measure the heavens!)
I love this perspective of God because I know so often I limit God and what I think HE can do and end up putting Him into a box. But this reminds me how great and limitless God is. He is infinite in every way!
No wonder people are compared to grasshoppers and withering flowers!
Yet v1-2, 11, 29, 31 are the most incredible!
They show God's amazing love for us, His children. He is great and mighty – so far beyond what our minds can even understand. Yet He loves us. Yet He wants to know us personally. How incredible and mind-blowing is that. The almighty God, creator of the entire universe loves you so much that He would send His son to die for you so that He could have a relationship with you, spend time with you. He promises to strengthen us as we come to Him and put our hope in Him.
So what are you waiting for?
Why not spend some time today / this week meditating on this passage and who God is and know that this is the God who loves you unconditionally!
