God comes to us
These tender verses speak to us about what sin does to us and what the Lord does about it.
When we are in a bit of a state and take the time to choose to look to the Lord, wait for Him – our God will hear us v7. No matter what you have done, where you at, or how low you are – look to Him, wait for Him and He will hear and answer.
When I fall I shall rise v8
Micah has fallen down and will need to rise. He doesn’t tell us what has happened so we can fill in our own blank.
Because I have sinned against him v9
The reason for Micah’s falling down is definitely a sin. He, like us, has blown it.
The enemy of our souls, the accuser of the brothers, rejoices when we sin – Rejoice not over me, O my enemy v8. When we are down the devil just loves to accuse us and make us feel worse, make us feel like a hypocrite.
I will bear the indignation v9. When we have sinned, it might be pleasurable for a while, but quickly our conscience kicks in. We God shines a light on it, reveals how we have displeased Him.
That is the trigger for us to repent. Godly sorrow leads to repentance. And as we look back at the Lord, wait for Him, we find he pleads my cause, executes judgement for me. Not against us, but for us. Jesus intercedes before us, speaks for us to the Father. He is a light for me, he brings me out to the light and we look upon his vindication.
Our relationship with Jesus isn’t just for forgiveness when we have messed up and we are aware of Satan’s rejoicing at our failure. Guilt is gone as “Jesus pleads for us and executes judgement for us”. Shame is gone as he brings us out into the light. Shame causes us to hide in the dark and shadows, but grace brings us into the warmth and delight of God’s light.
As we see in the last verses our sin is cast into the depths of the sea. But it is so much more. We know God’s faithfulness and His steadfast love as He has promised from long ago.
