One of the ways we teach English to those also interested in the Christian faith is using the Easy English Bible.
We gather for lunch and then go through a topic. The way we have landed on is as follows
We read through the first page sentence by sentence – as the teacher I will read it out loud and the class then read it back to me.
I will then ask if there are any new words they do not understand. Sometimes I will talk about the topic at this point to.
Our class is for mainly Iranian asylum seekers and refugees, so at this point one of them will read the Farsi translation using Google Translate.
Then on page 2, the class can do the gap fill exercise.
We will often try and discuss the topic and have an opportunity to pray for each other.
For some reason all our English classes love to do a wordsearch, so page 3 has a wordsearch for each bible stufy which reinforces vocabulary.
Here are the PDFs of the studies, which I will add to as we create more.
