2 Sam 15:13-16:14
King David under lots of pressure and on the run. Don't be surprised when trouble comes – often it is because you are doing the right thing.
- Discouragement 15v13– bad reports of kingdom turned towards treacherous son
- Tears 15v30f
- Disappointment – son Absolom turned against him
- Disloyalty as payback – Mephibosheth (16:4)
- Criticism (in this case cursing too!) Shimei 16:5-12 – actually curses bounce off the righteous. David in a better place when it happened again was even less bothered
- Exhaustion 15:4
- Tired? Go to bed! Rest physical, emotional (takes longer to recoup)
- Weary? Go to God (Elijah example needed food and sleep then God encounter)
How to refresh 15:14?
Psalms of Lament – tell God how it really is and get through to praise
Break and rest – physical, emotional, relational ,spiritual refreshing
Loyal people around you (Zadok 15:21; Husahi v37; Ziba 16:1-4; Ittai 15:21)
Go to God
Have hands lifted by others like Moses Ex 17:11
Prayer and fasting = sword and hand grenade
