Rhythms of all Disciples

3rd Jan, 2021

Happy New Year!
Do you make new years resolutions? Used to love making them, but I was better at breaking them and then I got fed up.
Surge in Gym membership in normal Januarys

Don’t make resolutions any more, but I do check my rhythms.
If I don’t I find have good rhythms, I find myself getting too distracted and overwhelmed and i plateau.
None of us wants that but it can end up like that and

  • Scattered: Our schedule is full but doesn't reflect our purpose and priorities.
  • Hurried: We're busier than we want to be, but don't know what to change.
  • Reactive: It seems we're never in charge, always responding to demands.
  • Exhausted: We end each day weary and discouraged, unsure if we've spent it well.

I want to grow in Christ and to keep growing in Christ.

To do that take seriously Deut 4:9 Take heed, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things which your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life.
I’m not going to talk about eating, sleeping and exercising, but you do need good rhythms there too!

We are starting a new series today called ROAD map – rhythms of all disciples!

1 daily rhythm of prayer and reading the word
Praying every day
New Testament in a Year – church app, email. Text in your name and email if you want added
Why not buy a cheap page per day dairy and journal your prayers

Weekly Rhythm 1 Gathering together
Heb 10:25
Tier 4 in a pandemic means its not physical for now
Sundays are important – worship, break bread, teaching and ministry
Smaller groups – know and are known.
Some struggling in lockdown – 55% of the church not in one. So we have created church bubbles to keep everyone connected and looked out for. Over the next few weeks bubble leaders will make contact to keep connection!

Gets more challenging now!
Weekly Rhythm 2 Accountability & Fasting
Accountability is about having a friend who is looking out for you and you are looking out for them – the “How’s it going really person?” in your life. Who’s that for you
Fasting – I’m weak on this one and need to add it as a weekly rhythm in 2021!
Kees joked that he fasts everyday between 11pm and 6am and then has break-fast. Mike who is better on this one will be teaching on it in a few weeks – Fasting is a great weapon in our armoury!

Weekly Rhythm 3 Share your faith
Next level challenge for many – but the great commission is not the great suggestion. We are all called to make disciples. So why not make this a year where you offer to pray for people who express a need or physical pain. And learn how to share the gospel.
If you want to know how – why not join the Growing in God- mission group from Thurs 14th.

OR if all this is making you even more anxious – then Kees and sarah are running Max Lucado’s Anxious for nothing also on Thursday nights from the 14th. We’ll repeat them later in the year, so don’t be anxious about not being able to do both.

Sign up on the website thegatewaychurch.info/interest-groups and we’ll send you the Zoom links!

Rhythms Of All Disciples
Being a disciple has a cost

Connect – how will you connect with God this week?
Obey – how will you obey these rhythms of all disciples
Share – how will you share the love of God with this week?
Teach – the ROAD map is simple, especially if you drew it out – who will you teach this too this week?
