2 Th 2:1-17
There are some false teachers who give a date for Christ’s return or even believe He has already returned. Back in Paul’s day people were clearly saying such things, demons were whispering and people were writing about it. ‘Don’t be deceived’, Paul says, ‘things will get worse before Jesus comes back!’. The man of lawlessness, aka the anti-Christ needs to do his thing first.
Paul tells us he is rebellious, lawless, utterly opposes God and even exalts himself as God. He will come with false signs and wonders and spiritual power that comes from Satan. Whenever I look into “healers” I want to know the source of power – there are only two sources of power, God and the devil and any spiritual power that denies Jesus is Lord comes from the devil and is deceitful by nature.
Currently the man of lawlessness is held back, but he will come, do his thing and then Jesus will kill him! His works will be brought to nothing, v.8. When Jesus does come, all will be made good.
The antidote is to believe the truth and stand for righteousness. Paul tells us to thank God because we are beloved, chosen as first-fruits, being sanctified by the Spirit and belief in truth.
Stand firm and hold on to good teaching. God will bring comfort and hope through His grace.
